The display of panoramic images is a problem on Backdrop CMS.  Scaling does not provide an adequate solution.  It generally results in a wide short image which is so compressed as to be unreadable.

There are several apparent solutions non of which are sufficient in my opinion. The use of Colorbox, PanZoom , and / or Panelium modules.

Of the three I have used Colorbox to provide a clickable access to a larger image than that on the originally displayed content.  It just does not  give  enough control or magnification.

PanZoom : The PanZoom module likewise is lacking in functionality.  No matter how I have configured it the module will simply put up the image in a new window and overlay the image  with the menu. In my case the primary Navigation menue.  What is worse you must go back to the home page to get out of the image.  It appears to me that the window has no regions.  That is the new display is not respecting the site layout selected.  Now it could be it just is placing the image in the header sectin but then the content section is also gone.  It just is not a usable solution.

Panelium just won't display anything. Maybe I have it all misconstrued but it does nothing. The web version seems quite impressive but it is not backdrop focused.  says

it will work anywhere yet the backdrop module does nothing when enabled.  Maybe it needs a special image format to work.

Zooomify :  In  essence, in order to show off my panoramic images I will have to do some coding.  My choice seems to lie between recoding PanZooom and completing the Zoomify module programming effort I started in Drupal 7.  I have looked at the Zoomify software and it will definitely do the  job, but it will require a lot of complected code to make a generally usable module for backdrop.  I will need to look at panZoom. Here all i need to do is make it not expand into a new page that ignores the layout zones.  That is set the pan an zoom image in the content area instead of the header area.  (if it recognizes the layout area at all.
